ENTREPRENEURSHIP & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT |
|
|
|
Michigan is at a crossroads. A state once synonymous with entrepreneurship due to the efforts of Ford, Kellogg, Dow, Durant, Mott and many others has experienced significant economic setbacks in recent years. Michigan must continue to work to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and ultimately re-build a robust, entrepreneurial, knowledge-based economy. Several entrepreneurial support organizations throughout the State of Michigan share a common interest in fostering entrepreneurship by facilitating the success of practicing and prospective entrepreneurs. These include SmartZones and business accelerators, Small Business and Technology Development Centers (SBTDCs), university offices of technology transfer, university entrepreneurship education programs, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Department of Labor and Economic Growth and others. Under the leadership of CyberMichigan, these groups have
joined together to articulate a collaborative vision for
entrepreneurship in Michigan – one specifically focused on the use of
ICT to enhance entrepreneurial activity and economic development efforts
across the state by providing broader access to “best in class”
entrepreneurship education, and utilizing tools and technologies to
encourage development and facilitate support of entrepreneurial
networks.
