Information technology has the potential to transform our classrooms, inspire our teachers, excite our students, and shape the future of our country.
While the benefits of this far-reaching technology are diverse, Michigan has not kept pace with the nation. In state-by-state comparisons, Michigan is outranked by its counterparts in almost every area: teacher training, computers in classrooms, student Internet access, and computer hardware and software. Michigan, as opposed to other states, also relies heavily on federal IT funding rather than state IT funding.
Policymakers and educators in Michigan must assemble and mobilize their efforts into a comprehensive strategy—one that aggressively supports the advancement of educational technology programs.
