MIKE WENDLAND: Internet phone calls clear enough to cut landline
I
did it. I pulled the plug on my SBC landline and -- gulp -- now rely totally on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for my home telephone service.  Aside from the geeky and cumbersome VoIP moniker, I've seen very little difference between using the Internet to call and the way it's always been with SBC, or Ameritech or Michigan Bell.

* Alpena: Library receives grant to help digitize collection

The Thunder Bay Sanctuary Research Collection housed at the Alpena County Library is about to attract a much wider audience.  Local officials just received word the library is the recipient of a $234,275 state grant to digitize and make available online large portions of this extensive collection of resources related to Great Lakes history.

Village of Romeo gets new Web site

The Village of Romeo just got caught in the Web.  A village sponsored Web site was recently launched to provide information about Romeo, although work continues on the project.Village Clerk Marian McLaughlin said it will continue to be a work in progress.

* Milan: On-line citizen request program first in state
Milan city residents will soon see a major improvement in customer service when it comes to dealing with city hall.  This week the city will go on-line with a new Internet based program that will allow residents and non-residents to file requests on-line.
