Michigan is in the middle of a technology revolution, yet too many of its citizens, especially the state’s children, are being left behind. Earlier this year the Corporation for National Service announced a new multi-million dollar initiative to engage AmeriCorps members and middle and high school students in closing the digital divide.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to closing the digital divide and gaining access to the Internet for more of Michigan’s children and adults, CyberMichigan was selected to support a portion of this initiative via a grant. This grant will be used to address three goals:

DOT Create a detailed profile of the digital divide and a technology asset map of Michigan’s eight geographical regions
DOT
Help each region develop a plan through which it can address its digital divide priorities
DOT
Stimulate immediate and longer-term actions to reduce and eventually eliminate the divide

The CyberMichigan database provides TEAM AmeriCorps and its collaborators with a central place to organize technological assets in Michigan, including tracking of location, status, and contact history of public access sites for computing, Community Technology Centers and computer training providers.
