The Accomplishments from TEAM AmeriCorps Members

Sonya White and Nicole Traver completed their CPR and 1st Aid certification.

Nicole Dewald On July 21, 2003 Nicole received the acceptance letter from the Lake Superior Leadership Academy on becoming a part of the Academy’s Class of 2004.

The Leadership Program

The Lake Superior Leadership Academy will conduct ten "classes". Both applicants and their employers must agree that each applicant will devote at least one weekday per month for eight months (October - May) to the program. This format is similar to other successful programs in other communities.

An initial orientation "retreat" for each class will be followed by one session each month, ending with a graduation ceremony. The sessions are designed to acquaint class members with information on the organizational structure, unique features, strengths and challenges of the Marquette Community. The program encourages participation in community affairs. An important benefit of the program is that members of each class will become aware of community networking and participate in it.

The Impact

The Academy will provide participants an opportunity to meet and talk with leaders from all segments of the community. They will exchange views and share opinions and challenges facing our area. In addition, the interaction of the participants allows for the opportunity to develop mutual trust and respect which will encourage continuing relationships outside the formal program.

Over a period of time, as alumni increase their community participation and assume positions of greater responsibility, our community will be strengthened. What are my reasons for desiring to participate in the Lake Superior Leadership Academy?

“I am interested in the Leadership Academy because I am positive it will be a valuable asset to me as far as personal and professional development as well as an opportunity to see how Marquette County has grown. I am interested in how I can be a part of community and stay in the community after my college education".
