Origins
CyberMichigan originated in 1998 under the name of cyber-state.org as a result of a
recommendation from the Michigan Information Technology Commission (MITC), a group
convened by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, and
the Council of Michigan Foundations. The Commission called for an independent entity
responsible for providing on-going analysis and long-term guidance on the direction of
information technology in Michigan.
